El blog como un tipo de literatura popular: problemas y perspectivas para el estudio de un género electrónico de Santiago Cortés Hernández

Este artículo se pregunta si existe una definición útil de los blogs como un nuevo tipo de escritura, así como de su discurso y del peculiar espacio en el que se desarrollan ¿Nos enfrentamos a un nuevo tipo de literatura popular que desborda los límites a los que nos confina la investigación filológica? Estos documentos de escritura electrónica, que no son ya un reflejo de ninguna escritura física previa, plantean nuevos problemas y perspectivas de estudio, ya sea como un tipo de escritura popular de tipo personal y o como un inmenso archivo vivo de la memoria colectiva.

Abstract

Is there currently a useful definition of blogs as a new type of writing, of their discourse and of the peculiar space in which they are written? Are we facing a new type of popular literature that surpasses the traditional methods of Philology for text analysis? These documents of electronic writing, that are no more a reflection of a previous physical writing, pose new problems and open new perspectives for the literary studies, both as a new form of popular and personal writing, and as a huge and alive archive of the collective memory.

El discurso autobiográfico en el blog personal: características de un género híbrido de Ma. Luisa Helen Frey Pereyra

El blog se distingue por ser un espacio abierto cuyo contenido puede ser de muy diversas índoles, pues se encuentra restringido sólo por el criterio del autor y, en algunos casos, por la participación de los lectores. Entre las muchas vertientes de la escritura del blog se encuentra la del discurso autobiográfico. Este artículo analiza algunas de las características del blog autobiográfico, prestando especial atención a la relación que mantiene con el género del diario, a la definición que hacen los autores de su propio blog y a cómo estos elementos pueden dar lugar también a la autoficción o a la ficción.

Abstract

Blogs stand out among other genres for being an open space with many kinds of contents, for they are only restricted by the author's criteria and, sometimes, by its readers. Among the many kinds of blogs is the autobiographic one. This article analyzes some of its characteristics, paying special attention to its relationship with the diary's genre, the definition blog authors' make of their own blog and to how these elements may lead to both autofiction or fiction.

El weblog, un nuevo género de la cultura popular digital, de Isabella Leibrandt

¿Cómo se relaciona el weblog con la cultura popular digital? ¿Quiénes son sus usuarios y productores, o los nuevos narradores de la era electrónica? Como respuesta se presenta el género electrónico del weblog con sus aspectos comunicativos y sus características en su función para la blogósfera. Además, se valora este fenómeno en su continuidad y a la vez transformación para la tradición oral popular, su significado social y cultural en el desarrollo tecnológico. Se vincula el weblog con la utilización de la escritura que desde sus comienzos constituye la fascinante posibilidad de compartir con otros vivencias, sentimientos, experiencias y todo lo que forma parte de las relaciones humanas. Para una mayor comprensión del weblog se hace referencia también al termino de la ‘oralidad secundaria’ como confluencia de rasgos de la comunicación oral y aquellos de la literalidad.

Abstract

How is the ‘open diary’ related to popular digital culture? Who are its users and producers, the new narrators of the electronic age? As a response to these questions, the characteristic features and communicative functions of the ‘open diary’ as an electronic genre in the blogosphere are outlined. Furthermore, the genre is analysed as both a continuity and transformation of popular oral tradition, and for its social and cultural significance in the context of technological development. The link between the open diary and the origins of writing itself is also explored: the possibility of articulating one’s experiences, impressions and feelings to others. The concept of ¡secondary orality’, a combination of features of oral and written expression, is invoked to arrive at an enhanced understanding of the open diary.

Encuesta y Investigación/ Survey and research

A la fecha 20 personas han respondido a nuestra encuesta sobre el blog. A los autores que ya la han respondido agradecemos su atención e invitamos a aquellos que todavía no la han contestado a hacerlo (encontrarán un link en la columna de la derecha). A partir de la observación y análisis de blogs, así como de las respuestas de las encuestas, hemos escrito dos artículos: uno sobre el blog como literatura popular y otro sobre las características del blog personal y su relación con la autobiografía, autoficción y ficción. Dichos artículos fueron leídos en el I Simposio Internacional de Archivos e Investigadores de la Escritura Popular celebrado en la ciudad de Zamora del 20 al 22 de octubre y serán publicados en esta página a principios de diciembre. En el simposio se discutió sobre si el blog puede o no ser considerado como literatura popular y sobre el papel que puede jugar como literatura cotidiana o íntima. Ustedes autores de blogs ¿consideran que lo que escriben forma parte de una literatura popular? ¿Creen que su blog forma parte de una literatura cotidiana? ¿Entra en el ámbito de lo íntimo o se trata de una escritura declaradamente pública? ¡Anímense a comentar!

Up to the date 20 people have answered our survey about blogs. We thank those who have answered it and encourage the blog authors who haven't to take a few minutes to help us with our research (you'll find a link in the column on the right). Out of the observation and analysis of this genre, we have written two articles about blogs: one of them as a manifestation of popular culture and, the other about the characteristics of personal blogs and their relationship with autobiography, autofiction and fiction. These articles were read in the I Simposio Internacional de Archivos e Investigadores de la Escritura Popular in Zamora (october 20 to 22) and will be published in this blog in December. In the simposium we discussed about blogs being or not popular literature and their possible relationship with "everyday writing" and "intimate writing" (these are my translations from Spanish so, if you know the fixed words for these kind of writings please send me an e-mail). Those of you who are blog authors, do you consider your blog is part of a popular literature? Do you think it could be classified as "everyday writing"? Is your blog "intimate writing" or is it mainly public? Feel free to comment!

Sobre este blog

Inaguramos este espacio con el deseo de tener un foro abierto para nuestra propia investigación entorno al blog, pero también con el propósito de abrir un espacio de encuentro para las investigaciones, preguntas y opiniones sobre este "género electrónico".

Los que conducimos la investigación de la que forma parte este blog y los que colaboramos para su publicación, somos dos investigadores formados en universidades mexicanas (U.N.A.M.) pero actualmente doctorandos de la Universidad de Alcalá.

Luisa Helen Frey
Linguista mexicana que realiza su tesis doctoral en lingüística aplicada sobre el léxico disponible y la escritura en la adquisición de una segunda lengua. En sus ratos libres estudia portugués, escribe un blog personal, dibuja cómics, traduce documentos relacionados con la literatura y hace todo lo posible por viajar.

Santiago Cortés
Investigador en literatura que realiza su tesis doctoral sobre los pliegos sueltos y el teatro de los siglos XVII y XVIII. Forma parte del Comité de Redacción de la Revista de Literaturas Populares y es codirector y webmaster de Culturas Populares Revista Electrónica. En sus ratos libres es traductor, lee cómics compulsivamente, ve cine en cantidades poco recomedables para la salud mental y hace todo lo posible por viajar con Helen.

Esta investigación

En términos históricos, el blog es un género y/o espacio joven, que en muy poco tiempo ha adquirido una popularidad e importancia dignos de estudio. Nuestro interés inicial es investigar al blog como una forma de literatura y su relación con otros géneros como el diario o la autobiografía (espectro que sin duda se ampliará a lo largo de la investigación) partiendo de los muchos estudios que se han realizado en esos campos. Esta investigación no tiene fines de lucro ni será utilizada con fines comerciales.

Cooperación de los "blogueros"

En el inicio de nuestra investigación nos hemos propuesto recopilar una serie de opiniones y datos fundamentales sobre lo que piensan aquellos que escriben un blog y sobre sus motivos para "lanzar esa botella al mar". Como siempre, éstas opiniones vivas y los resultados que se puedan obtener a partir de ellas, son los datos de más valor para el estudio.
Por eso, si tienes un blog te pedimos que nos ayudes respondiendo a la encuesta que encontrarás en la columna de enlaces. También son bienvenidos los comentarios, las críticas constructivas y todo tipo de ideas. Nosotros iremos haciendo lo propio para mantener este blog en forma con los avances de nuestra investigación. We open this space with the desire to have a forum for our own research on blogs, but also with the purpose of having a space where those interested in this "electronic media" can colaborate posting their own questions, opinions and research experience.

We are two researchers who began their studies in Mexican universities ( U.N.A.M.) and that are nowadays doing a PhD in the Universidad de Alcalá, Spain.

Luisa Helen Frey
is a linguist currently doing her PhD research on applied linguistics about lexic and writing in the acquisition of a second language. In her free time she studies portuguese, writes a personal blog, draws comics, translates documents about literature and does all that she can to travel.

Santiago Cortés
is a researcher on literature that is currently doing his PhD thesis about chapbooks and theater in the 17th and 18th Century. He is part of the Editorial Board of the Revista de Literaturas Populares and codirector and webmaster of the Culturas Populares Revista Electrónica. In his free time he translates, reads comics compulsively, watches movies in quantities not recommendable for mental health, and does all he can to travel with Helen.

This research
In historical terms, the blog is a young genre and/or space that, in very short time has acquired a popularity and importance worth studying. Our main interest is to study blogs as a form of literature as well as their relationship with other genres such as diaries or autobiographies (spectrum that, with no doubt, will grow throughout this research) taking as a starting point the many studies that have been done in such fields. This research is completely academical and won't be used with comercial interests.

Bloggers help

To begin this research we want to collect a series of opinions and fundamental facts about what blog authors think and about their reasons to "throw that message in a bottle to the sea". As always, these alive opinions and the results that we may obtain with them, are the most valuable data for this research.
That's why, if you have a blog, we ask you to help us by answering the survey you will find in the links column. We will also be happy to receive your comments, critics and all kinds of ideas.
